1. Zero Data Collection Policy

Max QR Code Tools does NOT collect, transmit, store on external servers, sell, or share any personal or non-personal user data.

All core functions—including QR code and barcode generation, image scanning, screen area capture, and text decoding—are executed 100% locally inside your browser (Offline-First architecture). No data, URLs, text input, or scanned images ever leave your device.

2. Local Storage and Data Retention

To provide a seamless user experience, the extension uses Chrome's native local storage APIs (chrome.storage.local and chrome.storage.sync) strictly on your machine:

  • User Settings: Custom preferences such as QR colors, output format (PNG/SVG), and automation options.
  • Local History: A record of up to 50 recent generated and scanned codes, stored locally so you can access or export them.
  • Custom Logo: User-uploaded logo images used for QR code customization are compressed and stored locally on your device.

You can clear your history or remove custom logos at any time directly through the extension interface.

3. Permissions and Their Usage

Max QR Code Tools requests only the minimum permissions required to function:

  • activeTab: Used to fetch the current page URL for 1-click QR generation, and to capture screen area crops when you use the screen scanner.
  • contextMenus: Used to add right-click options for selected text ("Generate QR code") and webpage images ("Scan QR code").
  • storage: Used strictly to save user settings and local history on your machine.
  • scripting: Used to display the interactive screen selection overlay and custom notification popups on active tabs.
  • clipboardWrite: Used to copy decoded QR text, Wi-Fi passwords, share links, or SVG code to your clipboard upon clicking copy buttons.
  • downloads: Used to save generated PNG/SVG image files to your computer and export local history in JSON format.

4. Third-Party Links & External Services

When you interact with decoded results (e.g., clicking to search a product barcode on Google or Yandex, or contacting support via Telegram), the extension opens standard web links in your browser. These external websites operate under their own independent privacy policies.

5. Security

Because all data processing occurs strictly within your local browser instance, your information is protected from server-side data breaches. All decoded content displayed in the extension interface undergoes automatic HTML escaping to protect against cross-site scripting (XSS) risks.
